It's taken time to make a Vegan 172 that we believe performs as well as the Original.
The first challenge was to source the right upper material that's an alternative to leather that looks beautiful and performs brilliantly. We've selected onMicro™ - a high performance microfibre with the key benefits of breathability and very high abrasion resistance.
However, making a vegan sneaker doesn't start and stop at the leather alternative. We've replaced the laces with recycled nylon - that was straight-forward. We've also had to seek assurances that no animal products or by-products appear in the soles or the adhesives we're using. Less straight-forward but achieved and independently verified by ams-lab.com/en/ who did 3 tests on every material used in the shoe; 1) A Chemical Screening Test to detect the presence of animal proteins - none detected 2) An Infra Red spectra test of the materials - passed 3) A Microscopic Analysis to confirm the absence of animal fibres - none detected.
With all the assurances received, we've put this sneaker into production and will continue our quest to make things that are beautiful, brilliant & better.
